According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash was first reported around 7:17 p.m. on January 23, when emergency services were dispatched to the scene following reports of a person lying in the westbound lane of State Route 20. Upon arrival, officers located a female pedestrian down in the roadway near a silver van. It was confirmed shortly after that she had been struck by the vehicle.
