Clovis, NM (January 5, 2026) – A high-speed police pursuit in Clovis early New Year’s Day ended in tragedy when a Ford Mustang crashed and rolled over in a rural field, killing one passenger.
According to the New Mexico State Police, Clovis police attempted to stop the Mustang just before 3:00 a.m. on January 1. The vehicle refused to pull over and fled at high speed into rural Curry County. Officers ended the pursuit after losing visual contact with the car.
While canvassing the area, officers discovered the vehicle had rolled over in a field near the intersection of County Road 7 and Curry Road G. At the scene, police found the driver, identified as Julian Romo, along with a passenger, Jesus Romo, who was found unconscious nearby. Both were transported to a local hospital, where Jesus Romo later succumbed to his injuries.
