Bakersfield, CA. (September 26, 2025) — A tragic crash involving a big rig and a passenger vehicle claimed the lives of two Daly City residents Saturday morning in northern Kern County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 11:44 a.m. on September 21 at the intersection of State Highway 65 and Famoso Road. Authorities say 76-year-old Napoleon Frayna Grande was driving a 2016 Honda Fit eastbound on Famoso Road when his vehicle entered the path of a 2014 Freightliner traveling southbound on Highway 65.
The force of the impact sent both vehicles off the roadway, causing the semi-truck to overturn. Napoleon Grande and his wife, 66-year-old Susan Julian Grande, were both fatally injured in the crash. The truck driver was transported to Kern Medical Hospital with unspecified injuries.
