Oxnard, CA (August 25, 2025) – A devastating early morning collision claimed the lives of two people on Saturday, August 24, in the unincorporated El Rio area just outside Oxnard.
According to reports, California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene at Central Avenue and Santa Clara Avenue shortly after 6 a.m. The crash involved a BMW sedan and a Chevrolet pickup. Investigators say the 19-year-old BMW driver, heading westbound on Central Avenue, allegedly ran a red light and crashed into the southbound pickup.
Tragically, the 75-year-old pickup driver and his 58-year-old passenger, both from Piru, were pronounced dead at the scene. The BMW driver, a Santa Paula resident, was taken to Ventura County Medical Center with moderate injuries and was later arrested on suspicion of DUI. The roadway was closed for several hours during the investigation.
