According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the collision happened just before 10 a.m. on December 28. Ruthie M. Phillips, who was driving a 2007 BMW 328i, reportedly struck a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox operated by a 63-year-old driver from Wingina, Virginia.
Phillips sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Virginia driver, along with two additional passengers in the Equinox, were injured and transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital for further treatment.
