Marlboro, NY (January 24, 2026) — A tragic crash in the Town of Marlboro claimed the life of a 25-year-old Montgomery man Friday afternoon, January 23. The accident occurred around 1 p.m. on State Route 9W near the intersection of Mahoney Road.
According to the New York State Police, the victim, identified as Isaiah D. Towne, was driving a 2010 Honda northbound when he attempted to pass another vehicle by using the eastern shoulder of the road. While navigating the shoulder, the Honda struck a snowbank and veered further off the roadway. As Towne tried to steer back into the northbound lane, the car overcorrected and crossed into oncoming traffic, where it collided head-on with a 2023 Kia.
Towne was extricated from the wreckage but was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kia’s driver, 74-year-old Angela A. Freeborn of Marlboro, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Medical Center, where she remains in stable condition.
