Fresno County, CA (June 23, 2025) – A devastating wrong-way collision on Interstate 5 Thursday evening left three people dead and triggered a fiery scene that scorched the roadway.
According to reports, the crash occurred around 7:00 p.m. on June 20 when a Jeep Cherokee, driven by an unidentified woman, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5. The Jeep collided head-on with a transport van occupied by two individuals. Moments after the initial impact, a Toyota carrying two people also struck the van.
While the occupants of the Toyota managed to escape, the vehicles involved soon caught fire. The female driver of the Jeep and both individuals in the van were pronounced dead at the scene. The blaze left a charred stretch along the interstate and significantly delayed the investigation.
The California Highway Patrol confirmed they were already nearby, responding to 911 calls reporting the wrong-way driver just before the fatal crash occurred.
