Lynn County, TX (August 29, 2026) – A fatal wrong way crash on US Highway 380 in Lynn County claimed the life of 17 year old Ariel Santos and left several others injured on Saturday night, August 15. Authorities have since arrested a Lubbock man in connection with the collision.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at approximately 9:51 p.m. near the intersection of US Highway 380 and County Road HH. Investigators determined that 44 year old Gilberto Torres of Lubbock was driving eastbound on the wrong side of the roadway when his vehicle entered the path of a westbound vehicle driven by 18 year old Brylee Renteria of O’Donnell.
The collision claimed the life of Ariel Santos, a 17 year old passenger in Renteria’s vehicle, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Several other passengers from O’Donnell and Lamesa sustained injuries and were transported to University Medical Center for treatment. Torres also suffered injuries and was taken to the same hospital.
Authorities later obtained arrest warrants charging Torres with Intoxicated Manslaughter, two counts of Intoxicated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury, and one count of Intoxicated Assault.
