Lynn County, TX (August 30, 2026) – A wrong way collision on US Highway 380 in Lynn County claimed the life of a teenage passenger and left several others injured. Authorities have arrested a Lubbock man in connection with the deadly crash.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision occurred at approximately 9:51 p.m. on August 15 near the intersection of US Highway 380 and County Road HH. Investigators reported that 44 year old Gilberto Torres of Lubbock was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of US Highway 380 when his vehicle entered the path of a westbound vehicle driven by 18 year old Brylee Renteria of O’Donnell.
The collision claimed the life of Ariel Santos, a 17 year old passenger from O’Donnell, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Several other passengers in Renteria’s vehicle suffered injuries and were transported to University Medical Center for treatment. Torres was also hospitalized following the crash.
Authorities later obtained arrest warrants charging Torres with Intoxicated Manslaughter, two counts of Intoxicated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury, and one count of Intoxicated Assault.
