Portland, OR (August 19, 2025) – A tragic incident involving a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a young Portland man early Sunday morning. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Gerardo Ortiz Henriquez.
According to reports, the deadly crash occurred around 2:45 a.m. on August 17, 2025, on Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Northeast Holladay Street. Portland Police said Ortiz was a passenger on a Lime e-scooter when both he and the rider were struck by a tractor-trailer.
Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man, who was operating the scooter, suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Authorities said that neither rider was wearing a helmet, and impairment is suspected as a factor. The truck driver left the scene but was followed by a witness and later stopped by police on Oregon 224 near Clackamas. Officers stated the driver may not have realized a collision had occurred.
