Oldham County, TX (September 11, 2025) – A devastating head-on crash west of Vega on Monday evening claimed the lives of three family members traveling from Arizona, including an 11-year-old boy.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal crash occurred around 6:35 p.m. on September 8 on Interstate 40, about one mile west of Vega. Authorities say 56-year-old Abdinur Hassan of Columbus, Ohio, was driving a 2024 Volvo truck tractor eastbound when he veered off the improved shoulder and struck a parked Freightliner semi-trailer.

The impact caused Hassan’s truck to cross into the westbound lanes, where it collided head-on with a 2022 Honda Pilot.

The driver of the Honda, 62-year-old Ronald Momyer, and a passenger, 61-year-old Julie Momyer, died at the scene. An 11-year-old boy was initially taken to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo before being airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he also died from his injuries.

Hassan was uninjured and was reportedly not wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation.
