Bakersfield, CA (August 5, 2025) – A woman was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run crash on Mount Vernon Avenue in East Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 1:46 a.m. on August 3 at the intersection of Mount Vernon Avenue and Oregon Street. CHP officers responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle and found the woman unresponsive in the roadway.
Investigators say the victim was walking southbound on Mount Vernon Avenue within the number two lane but outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck. The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are actively working to identify and locate the driver involved.
