San Jacinto, TX (August 28, 2025) — Dozens of inmates were injured last week in a bus crash involving a transit vehicle and a passenger car along U.S. Highway 59, just south of Shepherd in San Jacinto County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 10:46 a.m. on August 19. A 1999 Motor Coach Transit Bus, carrying inmates under the supervision of Lasalle Corrections, was heading northbound when it failed to reduce speed and struck the back of a 2018 Toyota Sienna. The collision forced the Sienna into a nearby concrete barrier.
The impact left 45 inmates with non-life-threatening injuries. All were evaluated and then transported to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Jail for further assessment. The driver of the bus, 39-year-old Albert Dauzart of Natchitoches, Louisiana, was not injured. The Sienna’s driver, 44-year-old Abid Prasla of Sugarland, also escaped harm.
The crash is under investigation by Texas DPS troopers.
