According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal accident occurred shortly after 11:15 p.m. on August 26 in the 2700 block of East Park Row Drive, near Texas State Highway 360. Investigators say Wells was driving a Dodge Ram westbound in the eastbound lanes of East Park Row Drive when his vehicle collided head-on with a GMC Acadia.

Wells, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. The driver and passenger in the GMC sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
