Irvine, CA (October 28, 2025) – A high-speed crash on the Santa Ana Freeway left one man dead and two others injured Monday morning in Irvine.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision occurred around 8:30 a.m. on October 27 in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Sand Canyon Avenue. Authorities say 26-year-old Irving Jose Orozco Gomez of Los Angeles was driving an Infiniti at a high rate of speed when he collided with the rear of a Jeep that had slowed with traffic. The impact pushed the Jeep into a Mazda SUV.
Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jeep’s driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, while the Mazda driver received treatment at the scene.
Traffic on northbound I-5 was severely impacted, with all lanes temporarily closed. One lane reopened approximately 20 minutes later as emergency personnel continued cleanup and investigation efforts.
