Vega, TX (October 29, 2025) — A woman lost her life Thursday morning in a tragic head-on collision near Vega in Deaf Smith County that also left four others injured, including three young children.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on October 24 at the intersection of US Highway 385 and County Road 26. Authorities say 57-year-old Kelly Wagner of Vega was driving an SUV and pulling out of a private driveway when she failed to yield the right-of-way and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado.

Wagner, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from her vehicle. She was airlifted to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, where she was later pronounced dead.

The Silverado’s driver, 27-year-old Makayla Munoz of Hereford, and her three passengers—children aged 4, 6, and 9—suffered minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Hereford Regional Medical Center.
