The collision occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. on September 3 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 285 and County Road 302 near mile marker 367. Investigators said a Ford F 250 pickup truck was attempting to merge from County Road 302 onto U.S. Highway 285 when it collided with a northbound 2006 Peterbilt tractor trailer.

Authorities said the force of the initial impact pushed the Peterbilt into the southbound lanes, where it struck a southbound Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Kolton Gochis.

Emergency responders transported Gochis to Reeves Regional Health for emergency treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, he later died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Peterbilt suffered serious injuries and was also taken to Reeves Regional Health. Officials said the driver of the Ford F 250 and a passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for evaluation.
