Lompoc, CA (October 13, 2025) – A man suffered critical injuries Saturday afternoon when his vehicle veered off the road and became lodged in dense brush along a steep embankment south of Jalama Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened October 12, about half a mile south of Jalama Road, in a remote area near Lompoc. Emergency crews found the vehicle 40 feet up a steep hillside, tangled in trees and thick vegetation.
Santa Barbara County Fire and Lompoc firefighters worked together to stabilize the car before using Jaws-of-Life hydraulic tools to free the trapped driver. The man was flown from the scene around 1:41 p.m. via Calstar helicopter to Marian Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
Jalama Road was temporarily closed during the rescue operation. Authorities are still working to determine what led to the crash.
