Anaheim, CA (October 9, 2024) – A 33-year-old Santa Ana man, Raymundo Rangel, is in custody after allegedly fatally striking a woman in her 50s during her evening walk in Anaheim on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near South Rio Vista Street and Wagner Avenue. Police found the victim in dense brush after launching a search when her husband reported she had not returned home.
According to the Anaheim Police Department, Raymundo Rangel was driving a silver Mercedes-Benz at high speed when he failed to navigate a 90-degree left turn, lost control, and veered off the road into a riverbed, where he struck and killed the woman.
The vehicle ultimately landed in the nearby Santa Ana River, about 50 feet from the road. Both Raymundo and another man in the car were detained and taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The driver faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI. The investigation is ongoing.
