MERCER COUNTY, NJ (January 26, 2025) – A crash on I-295 Eastbound near mile marker 5.7 left two vehicles damaged after one driver lost control on an icy roadway, according to New Jersey State Police.
The incident occurred around 8:52 PM when Samantha Kaitlin Cote, of High Bridge, New Jersey, was driving a 2007 Toyota Matrix on the ramp from US-1 Southbound to I-295 Eastbound. Investigators say she lost control after hitting a patch of ice, causing her vehicle to swerve right, then left, before striking a metal guide rail. Her car then spun 180 degrees into the travel lanes, where it was struck by a 2020 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Ryan Murray of Washington Crossing.
Cote’s vehicle came to a stop on the shoulder, while Murray’s car remained in the right lane. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and no serious injuries have been reported at this time. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
Protect Your Rights After an Accident Today
Winter road conditions can create dangerous situations for drivers, increasing the risk of losing control. If you are involved in a crash due to ice or other hazardous conditions, it’s essential to document the scene, seek medical attention, and consult with legal professionals to understand your rights.
Insurance companies may attempt to settle claims quickly, but these settlements may not fully cover medical expenses, vehicle repairs, or lost wages. Speaking with an experienced attorney can help ensure you receive fair compensation and navigate any potential liability issues. If you or a loved one has been in an accident, taking legal action can help protect your future.
