According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident occurred at approximately 9:00 p.m. on August 31 on westbound Highway 371. A 70-year-old woman was driving when her vehicle struck two women riding horseback along the highway.
Monique Morton, a resident of Anza, was killed in the impact. A 34-year-old woman from Temecula sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Both horses died as a result of the crash.
