North Bergen, NJ (January 21, 2025) – Six people were injured Friday afternoon when a dump truck careened into the side of a Target store in North Bergen, New Jersey. Officials report that the truck lost control while being loaded with soil and rocks at the top of a nearby hill.
The vehicle reportedly sped down the hill, crossing Tonnelle Avenue before colliding with the rear of a tractor-trailer and crashing into the store. According to Chief David Donnarumma of North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue, a woman became trapped in the store’s bathroom and sustained the most severe injuries. She was rescued by emergency crews.
The truck driver also had to be extricated from the vehicle. Investigators are now inspecting the truck for potential mechanical issues, including brake failure. Significant structural and water damage to the store has been reported, and its reopening timeline remains uncertain.
