San Diego, CA (October 28, 2025) – A deadly early morning crash on State Route 163 in San Diego left one person dead and caused major traffic disruption after a vehicle burst into flames following a multi-vehicle collision.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at approximately 2:19 a.m. on October 28 in the southbound lanes of SR-163 near Friars Road. Emergency crews arrived to find a vehicle fully engulfed in flames along the right shoulder, with debris and multiple disabled vehicles scattered across the freeway.
A white Hyundai Elantra was among several vehicles involved. Witnesses at the scene reported hearing multiple collisions before one of the vehicles caught fire. San Diego Fire-Rescue crews quickly worked to extinguish the blaze and rescue a trapped occupant.
