According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 3:56 p.m. when a female pedestrian attempted to cross the highway. A driver reportedly braked sharply to avoid hitting her, leading to a second vehicle rear-ending the first. The impact propelled the vehicles into the pedestrian.
