Bakersfield, CA (August 7, 2025) — A man died at the hospital Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle while crossing South Union Avenue in southern Bakersfield.
According to reports, the fatal incident took place around 9:29 p.m. on August 3, 2025, just north of Taft Highway. Authorities with the California Highway Patrol stated that a woman driving a Honda Civic was heading northbound on South Union Avenue when a pedestrian walked westbound across the roadway directly into the path of the vehicle.
The driver was reportedly unable to avoid the man in time. Emergency responders arrived and transported the victim to Kern Medical, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
CHP officers confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. At this time, alcohol or drug use does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
The roadway was temporarily closed for approximately one hour as officials conducted their investigation.
