Hickman, CA (December 3, 2025) — A 39-year-old Modesto man lost his life early Monday morning after being hit by an SUV in Hickman, California.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision occurred around 4:40 a.m. on December 1 on Lake Road, just east of Meier Road. Responding officers arrived to find a 2014 Chevrolet SUV with front-end damage and a pedestrian suffering from severe injuries. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, 70-year-old Nazario Lopez Bustos of Atwater, was not injured. Preliminary reports indicate Bustos was traveling eastbound when he spotted the pedestrian walking ahead in the same lane. As he turned left to avoid the man, the pedestrian also moved left, resulting in a fatal impact on the right front side of the vehicle.
No signs of impairment were found in the driver. The pedestrian’s condition regarding drugs or alcohol remains under investigation.
