Orcutt, CA (August 25, 2025) – Authorities have identified 39-year-old Raymond Abernathy III, of Santa Maria, as the motorcyclist who tragically lost his life following a multi-vehicle crash in Orcutt earlier this month.
According to reports, the fatal collision occurred around 10:15 a.m. on August 16 at the intersection of Orcutt Road and Siler Lane. The crash involved Abernathy’s black Suzuki motorcycle, a white Chevrolet truck, and a Mercedes-Benz sedan.
Investigators say Abernathy was riding northbound on Orcutt Road when a southbound Chevrolet truck, traveling around 40 mph, began turning left onto Siler Lane. The motorcycle struck the rear of the Chevrolet, ejecting Abernathy. He was then thrown onto the hood of a Mercedes-Benz following the truck, and ultimately came to rest on the roadway.
Emergency responders transported Abernathy to Marian Regional Medical Center, where he later died due to his injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
