Desert Hot Springs, CA (December 7, 2025) – A 20-year-old skateboarder was struck and killed Friday evening in a crash involving a vehicle that was illegally passing traffic in unincorporated Desert Hot Springs.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. on December 5 near the intersection of Mountain View Road and Dillon Road. Officers say the driver of a vehicle attempted to pass a slower-moving vehicle over double yellow lines and struck Juan Mejia Calvillo Jr., who was riding a skateboard in the roadway.
The victim, a Desert Hot Springs resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the incident.
Mountain View Road was closed between Louisan Road and the entrance to Mountain View Mobile Home Park until approximately 9:00 p.m.
