St. Louis, MO (January 15, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on the Interstate 55 ramp to westbound Interstate 270 resulted in one person being hospitalized Tuesday night.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that the accident occurred at approximately 9:55 p.m. on January 14.
A 2009 Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 35-year-old woman from Imperial, MO, was traveling westbound in lane 3 of the ramp while attempting to overtake a 2021 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, which was in lane 1. Lane 3 was partially obstructed by hardened snow, limiting maneuverability.
The Impala skidded after hitting a patch of ice, colliding with the Peterbilt’s rear right towed unit. The vehicle then struck a snow berm, veered off the roadway, hit a guardrail, and overturned onto its left side.
The driver of the Impala sustained minor injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital South by the Mehlville Fire Protection District. The Peterbilt driver, a 47-year-old man from Carol Stream, IL, was uninjured and drove his vehicle away from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
