Basehor, KS (June 18, 2025) – A tragic collision in Leavenworth County late Tuesday claimed the life of a local teenager following a crash at the intersection of 155th Street and State Avenue.
According to reports, 16-year-old Cody L. Lamping of Basehor was driving a 2005 Toyota passenger car southbound on 155th Street when the vehicle ran a red light around 9:16 p.m. on June 17. The Toyota entered the intersection and was struck on the driver’s side by a 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling westbound on State Avenue (US-24).
Lamping, who was wearing a seat belt and traveling alone, was transported to Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup truck, 68-year-old Steven H. Schuman, also of Basehor, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital with minor injuries.
The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
