Grayslake, IL (January 29, 2026) — A dangerous fire broke out early Monday morning at a natural gas fueling station in Lake County, injuring one employee and prompting a large emergency response.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Grayslake Fire Protection District was dispatched at approximately 5:16 a.m. on January 26 to the Waste Management Renewable Natural Gas Facility located at 1975 South Route 83 in Grayslake. Upon arrival, firefighters found two roll-off trucks fully engulfed in flames, positioned close to an on-site natural gas fueling station.
Due to the proximity of flammable materials, crews operated with extreme caution, deploying multiple hose lines to contain the fire. One Waste Management employee sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was evaluated by medics at the scene but declined hospital transport. No other injuries were reported among facility staff or first responders.
The fire was successfully brought under control before it could spread to surrounding vehicles or structures. Assistance came from nearby fire departments in Mundelein, Countryside, Round Lake, and Libertyville. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
