Ballville Township, OH (June 14, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle collision ended with a heroic act after a man saved the driver who caused the crash from a burning truck in Ballville Township on Tuesday, June 11.
According to reports, the crash happened at 5:11 p.m. on County Road 132 near County Road 41. Investigators say 24-year-old Hunter Schindler of Findlay was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado northbound when she failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the centerline, and sideswiped a southbound 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 23-year-old Cole Schoendorf of Helena.
After impact, Schindler’s vehicle struck a traffic sign, veered off the roadway, hit two trees, and caught fire. Despite being injured, Schoendorf rushed to the burning truck and pulled Schindler to safety before it became fully engulfed in flames. Her passenger, 25-year-old Dylan Brady, was able to escape on his own.
Schindler suffered a compound leg fracture and was taken to Saint Vincent’s Medical Center in stable condition. Brady, initially thought to have minor injuries, was later diagnosed with a fractured skull, broken orbital bone, and a brain bleed. He remains hospitalized. Schoendorf, who was wearing his seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and declined treatment.
Authorities suspect alcohol impairment on Schindler’s part. Charges of aggravated vehicular assault are pending as the investigation continues.
