Buttonwillow, CA (September 16, 2025) – A deadly collision involving two vehicles claimed the life of a young man Monday afternoon along Interstate 5 near Buttonwillow.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 12:02 p.m. on September 15, on the northbound side of Interstate 5 just north of Rowlee Road. Authorities say a 24-year-old man from North Hollywood was driving a 2025 Ram 1500 pickup northbound when a 2010 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 45-year-old man from La Puente, veered across the median and into oncoming traffic.
The Toyota entered the northbound lane and crashed directly into the path of the Ram. The Ram driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
The Toyota came to rest on the eastbound dirt shoulder. Its driver was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
CHP confirmed that drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the crash.
