Louisville, KY (November 5, 2025) – A UPS cargo plane exploded in flames during takeoff Tuesday evening at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, killing at least nine people and injuring 11 others. The MD-11 aircraft went down around 5:15 p.m., sparking a fiery crash that spread thick black smoke for nearly a mile around the crash site.
According to the Kentucky State Police, the aircraft crashed approximately three miles south of the airfield shortly after departure, directly impacting nearby buildings including Kentucky Petroleum Recycling and Grade A Auto Parts.
