Chatham, NY (October 3, 2026) – A 40-year-old store employee suffered serious injuries after a vehicle crashed into a convenience store in Columbia County on Thursday morning. The October 1 accident occurred at the Stewart’s Shops location at 30 Church Street in the Village of Chatham.
According to the Chatham Police Department, an 82-year-old woman driving a Honda Civic was pulling into a parking space outside the store at approximately 10 a.m. when the vehicle accelerated through the parking spot and struck the building.
The Honda crashed through the front and side portion of the store near a restroom. A 40-year-old employee was inside the restroom at the time and became trapped when the vehicle struck the building.
Emergency personnel worked to free the injured employee. The Chatham Rescue Squad then transported her to Albany Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
