According to reports, the crash occurred just after 6:30 p.m. on August 4 near the 2200 block of North Main Street, just north of Warner Avenue. Authorities say a gray BMW was seen speeding northbound in the southbound lanes of North Main Street when it struck another vehicle head-on. The impact led to a chain-reaction collision involving at least three additional vehicles.
Two individuals — a man and a woman — were pronounced dead at the scene. Five other people were transported to local hospitals in stable condition and are expected to recover.
Surveillance footage captured the moment of the crash, which witnesses say involved speeds of up to 80 miles per hour. The Santa Ana Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the wrong-way driving. It is not yet confirmed whether impairment played a role in the wreck.
