Fresno, CA (January 7, 2026) – A 58-year-old man was killed, and two others were hospitalized, on Sunday afternoon following a wrong-way crash on Highway 99 in Fresno, according to officials.
According to the California Highway Patrol, around 2 p.m. on January 4, dispatchers began receiving calls about a driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 from Olive Avenue. Moments later, the vehicle—identified as a Ford Ranger—collided head-on with two other vehicles just south of Clinton Avenue.
Authorities say the two southbound drivers attempted to avoid the wrong-way vehicle but were unable to prevent a crash. All three vehicles came to a stop across multiple southbound lanes.
The wrong-way driver, a Fresno resident, was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries. The two other drivers were also transported for medical treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.
