Berkeley Township, NJ (January 4, 2026) – A New Year’s Eve celebration ended in a serious accident when a flash fire from a backyard fire pit injured seven juveniles at a residence in Ocean County.
According to the New Jersey State Police, authorities were dispatched to the 100 block of North Trenton Avenue in Berkeley Township shortly before 10:00 p.m. on December 31, 2025. Emergency responders arrived to find several young individuals suffering from burn injuries caused by a sudden fireball that erupted from the fire pit.
Two victims were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River and later released. Another was transported by her parents to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Township and was also released after treatment. The remaining four juveniles declined medical transport and were released to their families.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the investigation, in coordination with the fire marshal, sheriff’s department, and local police.
