Laredo, TX (October 8, 2025) – A pedestrian who was critically injured in a collision on Riverbank Drive last week has died from his injuries, local authorities confirmed.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on October 2 in the 12100 block of Riverbank Drive, near Logistics Street in North Laredo. Police say 55-year-old Juan Manuel Garcia, a local owner-operator truck driver, was speaking with another trucker in the street before attempting to cross the road outside of a marked crosswalk.
Garcia was struck by a southbound gray Mazda 3, driven by 18-year-old Luis Rodriguez. The driver remained at the scene, called 911, and cooperated fully with investigators. No signs of impairment were reported.
Garcia was initially transported to a Laredo hospital, then airlifted to a facility in San Antonio in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.
The Laredo Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
