According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 12:52 a.m. on January 16 on U.S. Highway 40, approximately 10 miles west of Oakley. A westbound 2010 Chevrolet Impala reportedly crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound 2024 Kenworth semitrailer head-on.
The driver of the Impala, identified as 23-year-old Jaylen Z. Cruse of Manhattan, Kansas, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Colby Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the semi, 34-year-old Mouanoutoua Van Pein of Thornton, Colorado, was not injured. Both individuals were reportedly alone in their vehicles and were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
