Tempe, AZ (October 30, 2026) – A 33-year-old California musician suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run accident Friday, October 9, after being struck by a Tesla while walking along a sidewalk in Tempe. The collision occurred shortly after midnight on McClintock Drive near Palmcroft Drive.

According to the Tempe Police Department, an officer observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way and driving on the sidewalk before it struck pedestrian Adan Alcala, a mariachi drummer professionally known as Niko Stixx.

Investigators said the vehicle continued south in the northbound lanes before entering the southbound lanes. The Tesla later struck a light pole, damaging a side-view mirror that police recovered and matched to a white Tesla Model 3 abandoned approximately half a mile away.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed the vehicle traveling faster than 32 mph when it struck Alcala.

The musician sustained multiple fractures involving his arm, shoulder, and spine, along with internal injuries. Reports indicate he faces more than five major surgeries.

Investigators also reported finding evidence of inhalant use inside the vehicle and are examining whether impairment contributed to the collision.

Following an anonymous tip and witness interviews, police identified 23-year-old Scottsdale resident Nathaniel McKean as a suspect. McKean was arrested at his home Wednesday, October 28.

He faces charges including aggravated assault causing serious injury and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury. A judge set his bond at $150,000.

The Tempe Police Department continues investigating the collision. The allegations against McKean have not been proven in court.
