Tukwila, WA (July 1, 2025) — A high-speed collision involving multiple vehicles brought traffic to a standstill on northbound Interstate 5 near Southcenter Saturday night.
According to reports, the incident happened just before 9:50 p.m. on June 28 near milepost 154. The Washington State Patrol stated that a 20-year-old man from Algona was driving at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended another vehicle, triggering a chain reaction that ultimately involved at least eight vehicles. After the initial impact, the man’s car spun out of control, striking a motorcycle and ejecting the rider onto the left shoulder of the freeway.
The same vehicle then hit another car in the HOV lane, causing that car to collide with two more vehicles. Meanwhile, the first vehicle that was hit ended up striking yet another car. One additional vehicle was reportedly struck by an unknown vehicle in an unidentified lane, further complicating the crash scene.
At least one person was hurt and taken to local hospitals for further medical attention. The driver of the speeding vehicle was cited for disregarding the safety of others. Lanes were closed for about five hours while troopers conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
