Opelousas, LA (July 4, 2025) — A tragic crash in St. Landry Parish left a pedestrian dead Thursday night after they were struck by an allegedly impaired driver on Creswell Lane.
According to reports, Louisiana State Police began investigating the fatal incident shortly before 10 p.m. on July 3 along LA 31 (Creswell Lane) near Pebble Road. Troopers say the pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was walking in the right lane of LA 31 Southbound when they were struck by a 2015 Mazda driven by 32-year-old Cody Leger of Arnaudville.
Leger and a passenger in the Mazda were both wearing seatbelts and were not hurt in the collision. The pedestrian, however, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities believe impairment was a factor and continue to investigate the exact circumstances leading up to the deadly crash.
