Amador County, CA (August 9, 2025) – A 79-year-old woman from Jackson was killed Thursday afternoon in a head-on collision on Highway 49, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The crash occurred around 1 p.m., just south of Highway 16.
According to reports, CHP said a Ford Mustang traveling southbound veered onto the right shoulder before the driver overcorrected and crossed into the northbound lane. The Mustang collided with a Toyota RAV4, killing the RAV4’s driver at the scene. The Mustang driver was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Hospital, and their condition has not yet been disclosed. Authorities confirmed both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and Highway 49 was closed for two hours while crews worked at the scene. Investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
