Curry County, OR (August 13, 2026) – A head on collision on Highway 101 near Langlois claimed the lives of Joni Marie Williams and Hunter Lee Sturgill Wednesday evening in Curry County.
According to the Oregon State Police, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:14 p.m. on August 5 along Highway 101 near milepost 286. Investigators reported that a southbound white Buick Lucerne, driven by 63-year-old Joni Marie Williams of Bandon, crossed the centerline for reasons that remain under investigation. The Buick entered the northbound lane and collided head on with a silver Pontiac Vibe operated by 18-year-old Hunter Lee Sturgill of Coos Bay.
Authorities said Williams was pronounced dead at the scene. Sturgill also sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No additional injuries were reported. Highway 101 remained impacted for approximately three hours while emergency personnel investigated the collision and cleared the roadway. The Oregon State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
