According to the Oregon State Police, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:56 p.m. on August 5 along Highway 58 near Oakridge. Investigators reported that a westbound red Toyota 4Runner, driven by 25-year-old Colton Zachary Bias of Springfield, crossed into the eastbound lane for reasons that remain under investigation. The Toyota collided head on with a white Mack commercial motor vehicle operated by 60-year-old Collin Mitchell Owens of Springfield.
Authorities said 40-year-old Marjorie Rae Spence of Eugene, who was riding as a passenger in the Toyota, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Bias was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries. Another passenger, 38-year-old Kaylee Dail Cardwell of Westfir, was hospitalized with minor injuries. The driver of the Mack commercial truck was not reported injured. Highway 58 remained impacted for approximately four hours while emergency crews investigated and cleared the scene.
