Elm Creek, NE (June 22, 2025) – One person was killed and several others injured Thursday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near Elm Creek, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
According to reports, the crash occurred around 10:55 a.m. on June 20 at mile marker 256 within a construction zone. A westbound pickup truck towing an SUV lost control, crossed the center line, and collided with an eastbound semi-truck. The impact caused the towed SUV to detach and strike another SUV.
The driver of the pickup, a man from California, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the impacted SUV was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney by Apollo MedFlight. Several passengers in the SUV were also injured and transported by ambulance. The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.
Photos from the scene showed severe vehicle damage and extensive traffic backups, with I-80 temporarily closed in both directions. The highway has since reopened.
