Bakersfield, CA (January 21, 2026) – One person was killed and two others were hospitalized following a deadly two-vehicle collision on Highway 46 west of Smith Avenue Saturday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 1:16 p.m. on January 17. A 20-year-old man driving a 2003 Toyota Camry eastbound on Highway 46 veered into the westbound lane for unknown reasons. At that moment, a 60-year-old man driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound with a female passenger.
Despite the Silverado driver’s attempt to avoid a collision by swerving to the right, the Toyota struck the front of the truck in the westbound lane.
