Manhattan, KS (December 6, 2025) – A deadly crash occurred late Tuesday morning just outside Manhattan, Kansas, when a pickup truck rear-ended a sedan on northbound K-177, according to Kansas authorities.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 11:10 a.m. on December 2, approximately one mile south of Deep Creek Road. A 17-year-old driver operating a 2005 Ford Super Duty was traveling in the right lane when he rear-ended a 2012 Hyundai Accent traveling ahead of him.
The impact forced the Ford onto the shoulder of the highway, while the Hyundai veered off into a ditch. The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 54-year-old James Edgar Echols of Overland Park, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 52-year-old female passenger from Las Vegas was seriously injured and transported to Via Christi Hospital.
The teen driver was not injured in the crash, which remains under investigation.
