San Diego, CA (November 18, 2025) – Authorities have identified the man who died in a violent single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Sorrento Valley Road earlier this month.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 7, when a Hyundai Sonata traveling at a high speed lost control on the northbound side of I-5. The vehicle first struck the center divider before crossing multiple lanes and slamming into the outside guardrail.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and attempted life-saving measures on the driver, later identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office as John Kin Chuan Kim, 65, of San Diego. Despite their efforts, Kim was pronounced dead at the scene.
